I’m Derrick
founder of Wandered Stories, and I’m a dreamer just like you.
I did a lot of daydreaming as a kid. Movies were a form of escapism for me, and I’d spend hours getting lost in other worlds, exploring other universes. The creative arts were always a draw; I loved creating, directing, and acting in movies with my friends at school.
Thanks to dedicated learning, I mastered the intricacies of photography - embracing skills in framing, color grading, capturing raw emotions, and using visuals to weave captivating narratives. My lens traversed diverse subjects, from landscapes to lifestyle, leading photography to become my primary pursuit.
I moved with my parents from the Philippines to California when I was 7. Eventually, I followed in their healthcare professional footsteps, graduating with a nutrition & dietetics degree. I initially planned on setting up my own nutrition consultation company, but deep down I knew photography was the path I was destined to take.
I founded Wandered Stories in 2020, initially capturing graduation & lifestyle portraits. Over time, my passion for storytelling led me to specialize in capturing weddings and elopements all around the world. I love being able to weave my visual perception with creative storytelling to evocatively capture the authentic moments in people’s lives.
Over the years, Wandered Stories has grown from a solo endeavor to a passionate team of storytellers who share my dedication to capturing love in its most genuine form. We’ve worked with hundreds of couples to bring their love story to life. And we’re so excited to tell yours.
When I’m not out shooting or editing footage, you can find me getting lost in a movie or planning my next adventure. Iceland and Japan are next on my travel bucket list - both places offer incredible landscapes that really inspire my work and creativity.

What inspired you to get into photography?

Favorite movies /
I used to break dance and do battles, I was a 3D artist, and I sculpt here and there. I’m a turntablist scratching randomly at night.
Tell us something we don’t know /
It all started on my 7th birthday. I got my first point-and-shoot camera, and trust me when I say I photographed everything. Growing up, I wanted to document everything: the laughs, the joy, and the small, intricate details. I never wanted to forget how I felt in those happy moments and so began my love for documenting life.
What inspired you to get into Filmmaking?
Chris — Videographer
I’ll always be telling people’s beautiful life stories through documentary filmmaking. It comes from my life-long fascination with how someone’s passion can light them up.

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who has a private practice for Strength and Nutrition for Combative Athletes. I am an outdoor junkie who loves backpacking and am big into the gym and physical fitness.
Tell us something we don’t know /
My late grandfather was a photographer in Vietnam and had a studio, but he lost it in the war. When he moved here, he picked it up again and introduced me to photography at a pretty young age. When I was 10, I bought myself a Nikon Coolpix with money I’d saved. My love for photography blossomed from there.
What inspired you to get into photography?

Favorite movies /
I moved here from Vietnam when I was 7! I'm two-time a ULV alumnus. I studied in Europe at the beginning of 2020 and almost got stuck over there.
Tell us something we don’t know /
When I was 8 years old I got my first digital camera and I started making home movies, as well as taught myself how to edit on the family computer. While I was in college majoring in film production, I found my love for wedding filmmaking. What I love most about wedding filmmaking is getting to capture such a beautiful and special day for a couple, so that they can relive the amazing moments for the rest of their lives!
What inspired you to get into Filmmaking?

My dream is to continue story telling for others and capturing their special moments of life.

Favorite movies /
Something most people don’t know about me is that I performed in an acrobatic circus for 5 years! My favorite things to do were riding unicycles, flipping off of teeterboards and performing aerial pole. And yes! I can still ride a unicycle! Recently I have taken up a love for rock climbing and spend as much time as I can outdoors.
